You can travel around Budapest for several hours, a couple of days, a whole week or even a month. There are so many interesting places that there is always a place to go.

What to see in Budapest:

  • in 1 day: St. Stephen's Church, Andrassy Street, Hungarian Parliament Building, Chain Bridge, Margaret Island, Holocaust Victims Monument.
  • in 2 days: the same as on the first day + Buda Castle, Diz Square, ruin bars, any of the baths in Budapest.
  • in 3 days: the same as in the first two days + Varoshliget Park, Gellert Mountain, House of Terror, Great Synagogue and Jewish Museum, Zoo and Philosophical Garden.
  • in 4 days: Add to the iconic landmarks of the Hungarian capital the "city within the city" Belvaros, the Esseri Piak market, the castle, park and Beethoven museum in Brunswick.
  • in 5-7 days: you will not only get to know Budapest, but also visit its surroundings - Eger, Esztergom, Gödöllö, Sökesfehervar, Szentendre, Pannonhalma Abbey, Lake Balaton and Heviz.

Hungarian Parliament

Price... 6700 HUF (20 €). Discounts for children over 6 years old and students. Children under 6 years old are admitted free of charge.

One of the main architectural symbols of Budapest is located at Kossuth Lajos tér, 1-3. The majestic parliament building combines the features of neo-Gothic and eclecticism and looks like a luxurious palace. This is probably the most photographed building in the city.

The interiors are just as impressive as the facades. You will see huge halls, luxurious chandeliers, a lot of gilding, expensive fabrics and rare woods. The building is not accessible to tourists during parliamentary sessions, so check in advance if you can get inside on your chosen day. Tours in Russian are held twice a day - at 12:30 and 15:15.

Buda fortress

Price... You don't need to pay for a walk around the fortress. One way Siklo funicular costs 1200 HUF (3.85 €), in both directions - 1800 HUF (5.75 €). For a ticket to the National Gallery you need to pay 1800 HUF (5.75 €), and to the Museum of History - 2400 HUF (7.14 €).

The unique historic district on the right bank of the Danube is one of the must-see attractions in Budapest. Fortifications on the mountain were built in the XIII century, and for a long time there was a residence of the Hungarian kings. On the territory of the old fortress, you can see the ruins of a medieval castle, the Fisherman's Bastion, Sandor Palace and the Church of St. Matthias. Visit the National Gallery and the Royal Palace Museums

Chain bridge

Price... Is free.

The oldest bridge across the Danube appeared in the middle of the 19th century and united two parts of the city - Buda and Pest. The picturesque building is very nice in the evening when the lanterns are turned on and the bright light is reflected in the waters of the river. Admire the famous bridge from the embankments or on a boat trip. A river walk along the Danube costs from 3430 HUF (11 €).

Basilica of St. Stephen

Price... You can get to the temple for free, but it is customary to leave a donation of 200 HUF (0.6 €). A visit to the observation deck costs 1000 HUF (3 €).

Hungarians are especially sensitive to the memory of the first king of the country - Istvan, or Stephen. The huge temple is built in the form of an equilateral cross. The main building is adjoined by two bell towers, one of which hangs a bell weighing 9 tons.

Go inside to see multicolored stained glass, mosaics and gilded carvings. The church has excellent acoustics, so classical music concerts are regularly held in the basilica.

House of Terror

Price... A ticket to Terror Háza costs 3000 HUF (8.93 €), an audio guide 1500 HUF (4.46 €).

One of the most tragic museums in the city is located at Andrássy út 60, Andrássy út Avenue. If you go around it, it will be impossible to understand the attitude of the Hungarians to their history. The museum occupies a house where a prison for opponents of the totalitarian regime was located in the post-war years. The building is framed by a wide canopy. In sunny weather, it casts a shadow and the TERROR sign appears on the facade.

Opera theatre

Price... The tour costs 7.5 €, or 2490 HUF.

The Opera House is one of the must see places in Budapest in winter. In cold and rainy weather, it's nice to be in the beautifully decorated halls and behind the scenes. The theater itself is under reconstruction, but the building is open for guided tours.

Tourists are taken to the holy of holies of musical art and shown the most unusual places of the theater. You will learn about the history of famous performances, famous performers and listen to a mini-concert where two opera singers perform arias and duets.

Margaret Island

Price... Is free.

Anyone who is tired of city bustle and noise will be pleased to be on a green oasis in the middle of the Danube River. You can get here via the Arpad Bridge. The island is good for hiking and active sports. On Margita there is a "dancing" fountain, a thermal bath and the country's largest water-health complex. Visit the grave of Princess Margaret and the ruins of an ancient monastery!

Cast iron shoes on the embankment

Price... Is free.

In the mid-2000s, an unusual monument to the victims of the Holocaust in Hungary appeared on the Danube embankment in Peshst. Trampled men's shoes, women's shoes and small children's shoes are turned towards the river. The expressive monument is dedicated to Jews who were massacred in the city in 1944-1945. The author of the idea of ​​the monument is the director Ken Togai, and the sculptor is Gyula Power.

Zoo budapest

Price... A ticket for an adult costs 2500 HUF (8 €), for a child 1800 HUF (5.75 €).
